After 26 years of devoted service, Sarah Fisher, bids farewell to her illustrious career at Nueces Electric Cooperative. Her journey has been marked by a profound commitment to excellence, compliance and a passion for community engagement that has made ripples across our company.
Sarah's career began in 1989 at Cookson Electric Cooperative in Oklahoma, where she honed her skills for five years. In 1994, she married her husband, Alan Fisher, and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. Sarah joined Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) in 1997 as a Member Services Representative in a communications role. Her dedication quickly led to her promotion, and from 2008 to 2011, she served as the Manager of Communications & Regulatory Affairs, navigating complex regulatory landscapes and NEC’s entry into customer choice with expertise.
In 2011, Sarah assumed the role of Chief Compliance Officer, a position she held until her retirement in 2024. In May 2018 Assistant Manager was added to her title. Sarah twice served the Coop as Interim CEO. Her tenure as CCO was characterized by unwavering integrity and a steadfast diligence to ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Electric co-ops are a special place to work, and Sarah has never taken that for granted. Unlike for-profit electric companies, not-for-profit electric co-ops like NEC focus on providing service to their members and the community. Reflecting on her career, Sarah shared with heartfelt conviction, "Having my career with a company with such a service mission has been a true blessing." She added, "The employees, the board of directors, and the work itself all focus on one thing: service to our members. That gives you a whole different perspective when you come to work each day." Sarah will miss being part of the co-op family and sharing ideas, challenges, and achievements with her co-workers.
Throughout her career, Sarah pursued professional development, earning certifications including Senior Certified Professional (SHRM, 2015), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR, 2011), Certified Cooperative Communicator (CCC, 2002), and Certified Key Accounts Executive (CKAE, 2001).
Beyond her professional achievements, Sarah's impact extended into the community. In 1999, she chaired the inaugural Relay for Life for the Robstown/Calallen area, showcasing her leadership and philanthropic spirit, and for 2 year more.
Outside of work, Sarah cherished simple joys like walks along the beach and family dinners, embodying her love for her family, including her four children and eight grandchildren. Whether organizing family vacations or cruises, Sarah held the moments and memories they created close to her heart.
As Sarah enters her next life chapter, her legacy of dedication and ser- vice will inspire all who worked alongside her. Her contributions to the electric cooperative community and unwavering commitment to making a difference leave a lasting mark. Sarah Fisher's retirement isn't just a chapter's end; it's a celebration of a remarkable career and a life well lived.
