(May 19, 2021) 1:00pm Update - The damage to the Ricardo substation feeder has been fixed and power has been restored to members affected by the outage. There are now 551 members without power. The damage has impacted all areas of NEC’s distribution system, so outages remain scattered across the system’s 8 county area. Many of these outages are individual outages, which take time to restore because linemen have to visit each individual location to make repairs. Crews are working as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power to all members.
(May 19, 2021) 11:50am Update - Currently, we have 149 outages with 2,367 meters out of service. The Ricardo substation is out due to issues on South Texas Electric Cooperative's transmission lines causing 1,803 of these outages. 564 members are without power due to the severe weather. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our crews will continue to work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible until everyone is back in power. Stay safe!
(May 19, 2021) 9:30am Update - Current severe weather conditions and lightning storms have caused scattered outages across the NEC service area. The Ricardo substation recently received extensive damage as seen in the pictures below. Due to the damage, our Ricardo area members may see prolonged outages. Since the substations are part of South Texas Electric Cooperative's transmission system, we have NEC crews on site ready to work with them to find the problem.

Tips to remember:
- Report outages on SmartHub or by calling 1-800-632-9288.
- Do not approach downed power lines or poles. They could still be energized and are dangerous.
- Do not drive through flood waters. Turn around, don't drown.
- Unplug appliances and devices to prevent power surges to them.
- Keep refrigerators and freezers closed to help maintain the temperature.
