Due to continued freezing temperatures, high demand, and unseasonably low wind Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) is echoing the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) call for all Texans to limit and reduce their electric use as much as possible on Monday, January 15th, 2024, from 6am to 10am CT. ERCOT expects similar conditions on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, and will continue to monitor conditions and keep you updated.
At this time, ERCOT has issued a conservation request appeal through the public news media for energy conservation. This means power reserves throughout the state-wide grid are lower than usual and are being closely monitored. There is not yet a shortage of power but continued cold weather and heightened energy usage may cause these reserves to lower further.
NEC encourages our members to help conserve energy in these harsh winter conditions by utilizing the following energy-saving tips:
• Set your thermostat as low as you can comfortably do so (ideally at 68 degrees or under).
• Avoid using major appliances if possible (save the dishes and laundry for other times).
• Avoid cooking on the stove or oven (opt for the microwave or toaster oven instead).
• Bundle up and utilize clothing and blankets for additional warmth.
• Turn off unused lights and unplug any unused small appliances and electronic devices.
