(May 18, 2021) 3:45pm Update - High winds and lighting damaged poles, power lines, and equipment to interrupt power for over 3,400 NEC members early this morning. With 438 members remaining without power at this time, NEC has restored power to almost 90% of these impacted members. NEC crews have been hard at work since 2am this morning and NEC has all available contract crews in the field supporting the service restoration effort. The damage impacted all areas of NEC’s distribution system so outages remain scattered across the system’s 8 county area. Members are cautioned that additional storms and flash flooding are in the forecast for tomorrow and through the rest of the week. Those with household members on life support should continue to plan for possible extended outages.
(May 18, 2021) 1:00pm Update - NEC line crews continue to respond to outages from the storms that moved through our service territory late Monday evening and early Tuesday morning. Rain, lightning, and high winds primarily impacted Duval, Jim Wells, and Nueces counties. Most of the damage is from lightning and high winds causing some broken poles and many individual outages that crews must respond to one-by-one. There are currently 138 outages and 830 members without power.
Because there are many individual outages, we cannot tell you exactly when your power will be restored if you are still off. With safety as their top priority, our line crews will work as quickly as possible to restore power to all members.
