NEC Prepares for Impact from Tropical Storm Beta
ROBSTOWN, TX - Nueces Electric Cooperative (NEC) has responded to the active tropical storm conditions in the Gulf of Mexico by activating its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) level II.
“NEC’s Emergency Response Plan is the cooperative’s coordinated response to crisis situations, it is most commonly activated for storms and severe weather,” explains Assistant General Manager and Chief Compliance Officer, Sarah Fisher. “We are currently at ERP level II which means we have moved beyond simply monitoring weather conditions and the cooperative is now taking specific actions in anticipation of possible impacts to our service territories and our members.”
While NEC prepares for Tropical Storm Beta to impact its system, NEC also encourages members to take active roles and begin storm readiness preparations. NEC wants to remind its members that the NEC storm readiness page is available which contains storm preparedness information that will help keep NEC members and their families safe. The webpage also contains links to the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center websites for additional storm preparedness resources.
In 2019 NEC introduced outage texting to its membership. NEC members will now receive a text message when power is lost, as well as when power is restored. NEC encourages its members to stay up to date with current outages by using the NEC Outage Viewer. To report an outage, Please call 800-632-9288 or 361-387-2581.
Its possible that Tropical Storm Beta could cause extended outages across NEC’s service territory. NEC advises members who have a member of their household dependent on life support equipment to prepare their equipment backup plans in the event of extended outages.
Lastly, NEC encourages all members to follow local news sources, the NEC Facebook page, as well as NEC website for news regarding Tropical Storm Beta’s impact to the coastal bend and surrounding areas.
The mission of Nueces Electric Cooperative, a member-owned cooperative, is to help our members continually improve their quality of life by providing reliable, cost-effective electric service in a culture where safety is a priority.
